French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

French-door refrigerators are a perfect blend of design and function. They have stylish double doors that show a large fridge on top, and a freezer drawer below. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, high-end ice machines and flex drawers that can be customized make them stand out from the rest.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. They weighed the capacity of storage, layout and energy efficiency as well as other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name of the series suggests that the GE Profile series is targeted at those who wish to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchens. This refrigerator is packed with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive and I expected more.

Apart from that minor flaw however, this refrigerator is a fantastic choice. It has a huge freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth French door fridges. It also holds plenty of frozen food compared to other models.

The fridge has 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It has a decent-sized freezer in the left side. But it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

You can alter the shelving in both compartments to create a customized storage arrangement for the items you need to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. The LED lighting is a nice feature, and the in-door storage bins come with a third shelf that can fold down to allow you to store items that are tall. The drawers include temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to open and shut however I found the plastic's textured coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge at this price that includes Wi-Fi as well as app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices allows you to control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and has numerous options for customization. It also sends you notifications when the door is unlocked and when the freezer or fridge needs to be defrosted, and when the filter needs to be changed.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill, an option available in a handful of other GE refrigerators that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to pour out simultaneously. It does offer an indicator on the fridge's display to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as effective as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The Bosch non plumbed french door fridge-door Refrigerator is a stunning piece of equipment. It's designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer, and two compressors for preserving food. The ice maker is one of the most efficient we've ever tested and produces a pyramid-shaped Ice with low water usage. This refrigerator is a great option for households with a single member or kitchenettes that want a built-in look and top of the line food preservation.

This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for a few reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit and never changing more than a fraction of one degree. This is crucial in preventing freezer burn. The fridge section of the fridge also performed well. It reached the initial temperature set within a matter of hours, and maintained the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its premium appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to monitor and control the refrigerator remotely using your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is expensive however, it offers excellent features and functions at a reasonable price.

It's important to understand the limitations of your fridge. It has a narrow space for shelves, so you'll need to be creative when storing tall objects. Also the shelves aren't completely sprillproof, and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp objects. The trays can be easily removed from the fridge. However, they should be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give tall items more headroom. There's also a full-width storage drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker making it simple to transfer ice when needed. The freezer also comes with thoughtful design features, like sliding drawers that allow you to sort your things. It also has a large container for storing frozen food, and a separate bin for ice.

Another great feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It allows you to control the fridge's temperature and lighting via your smartphone. It's an easy way to monitor your fridge and manage it, particularly when you're not at home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't enhance the efficiency of the fridge. The fridge took a bit longer to defrost food and chill it than the other fridges we tested. This could be due to its bigger capacity.

The doors pose a problem with this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However taller people will struggle to close them without slamming them. It would have been more effective if these had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those looking to blend the look of a french door fridge deals door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a little cheaper than the best counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which can make it a desirable choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French door fridge next To wall Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire french door refrigerator with ice maker in bottom freezer door refrigerator is a good option if you want a French-door fridge that doesn't break the budget. It's a basic fridge that might not be as attractive as some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make it a good option. Its most important feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits over the two crisper bins, is another excellent feature. This drawer lets you direct the majority of the refrigerator's cooling power into this area, so that you can keep food items which need extra attention. You can alter this feature using an adjustable slider that is located just on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to adjust the general cooling settings for the whole fridge, however, I've found that changing the generic settings tends to produce better results than specific ones.

In my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the refrigerator. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary very far from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a great performance, but it doesn't quite make it into the top ten in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with an intelligent thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of grey-bodied stainless steel that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It is capable of preventing streaks and fingerprints from appearing, even compared to glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
