The Band Toto Asia

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an ode to the classic sextet format and a more consistent, stronger effort that had a more grittier edge. The edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the maturation in the group. Bobby Kimball's growing proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was sharper, more intricate and less cloned previously recorded efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live show in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a new studio album a few months later, and went on a world tour promote it. During this period keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started searching through old demos and tapes in search of a new album featuring songs that were never recorded before. It was completed in the form of a double-album called Then and Now in 2001. It was the first album in the history of the band that did not include any single song that had the word "A" in its title. By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity.
