About Toto

Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word that means "all encompassing," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.

The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.

The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. It was the first time in 31 year that all of Toto's founding members performed together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
