In the 2024/2025 season, BRI Liga 1 clubs are permitted to sign up to eight foreign players, with no restrictions on their nationalities. Persebaya Surabaya has signed Darryl Lachman as their seventh foreign player for the season. Initially, Persebaya planned to use only six foreign players, but recent developments led them to recruit Darryl Lachman. Lachman, a 34-year-old central defender, played for Perth Glory in the 2023/2024 season, featuring in 23 matches. Lachman has experience with Dutch clubs such as FC Groningen, PEC Zwolle, FC Twente, Cambuur, and Willem II. PSBS Biak has also added a foreign player, signing Jaimerson Xavier, who played for Persis Solo last season. The top-tier competition in Indonesia runs from August 9, 2024, to May 25, 2025. The second matchday of Liga 1 took place on Friday (23/08/2024) evening WIB, featuring a clash between Persebaya Surabaya and Barito Putera. This intense match ended dramatically with Persebaya winning 2-1 thanks to a late goal by Mohammed Rashid. As a result, Persebaya now sits at the top of the Liga 1 2024/2025 standings with seven points from three matches. Meanwhile, Barito is in 10th place with only three points. On Saturday (24/08/2024), two games are scheduled: Madura United vs Persita in the afternoon and Persija vs Persis in the evening.

Bhayangkara FC is regretting their 2023/2024 season, which ended with relegation from BRI Liga 1. Consequently, The Guardians will play in Liga 2 next season. However, Bhayangkara FC is eager to return to the top flight as soon as possible. The team has been preparing rigorously since early June 2024 and has strengthened their roster for Liga 2. They have signed notable players like Ilija Spasojevic from Bali United and Andy Setyo from Persikabo 1973, both of whom have international experience with the Indonesian national team.

Persib will begin their campaign in BRI Liga 1 by facing Persib Bandung. Persib Bandung hold the title of defending champions in BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. Maung Bandung will try to retain their title, which is evident from their activity in the transfer market. Persib has signed two local players with Indonesian national team labels, Dimas Drajad and Adam Alis. Both are believed to have a significant impact on the depth of Persib's squad. Moreover, Bhayangkara FC has brought back experienced senior player Ruben Sanadi, who previously helped PSBS Biak achieve promotion to Liga 1. The team has also retained several top performers such as Matias Mier, Junior Brandao, Dendy Sulistyawan, Putu Gede, Muhammad Hargianto, and Awan Setho. Matias Mier will once again be crucial in midfield, having scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in 46 appearances last season. Junior Brandao was a top scorer candidate, netting 16 goals and adding four assists in 30 matches after his transfer from Madura United. Radja Nainggolan, who was previously with AS Roma and Inter Milan, will not be part of the squad for the next season as his contract was not extended. With these adjustments, Bhayangkara FC aims to return to Liga 1, under the guidance of the experienced coach Gomes de Oliveira.

Persib Bandung started the new BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 season with a commanding win. Against the previous season's Liga 2 champions, PSBS Biak, Maung Bandung clinched a 4-1 victory. The goals for Persib were scored by a brace from David da Silva, and one each from Beckham Putra and Ciro Alves. PSBS Biak managed to pull one back with a goal from Alexsandro Ferreira. With this win, Persib tops the BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 standings with three points, while PSBS Biak is at the bottom.

The match, held at Stadion Si Jalak Harupat, was intense from the start. Both teams were engaged in a back-and-forth exchange of attacks. The first major chance occurred when David Da Silva took advantage of a corner kick from Mailson, but his shot missed the PSBS Biak goal. Persib opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Starting from a counterattack, Dimas Drajad delivered a cross from the right, which David Da Silva converted into a goal. Persib was ahead 1-0. The lead boosted Persib’s confidence, leading them to press on, but the score stayed 1-0 until the break.
