How to Replace an audi tt key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins and they serve different purposes but the best method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car key Replacement audi will start when the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I'm not sure what to do, as i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to know the position and speed the crankshaft to determine timing of the fuel injector, etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.
The signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially in the case of an Bosch model like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a great option.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for numerous problems in your car. It's a vital component of the audi replacement key's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the audi a1 car key's crankshaft is rotating. If the sensor fails, it will disrupt the performance of the transmission and the other car's components.
