WoW Upgrades - The item upgrading Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will show a preview of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item upgrader kit and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded, and can be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrade upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After the player has upgraded to a certain level of item level upgrade for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items come from another set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. They can use Flightstones, which are a common upgrade currency available to everyone, or crests, which are more specific and consumed during upgrades on specific levels of the item. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another important modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
