WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random extra substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. Upgrades are items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be bought by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current Best item upgrade level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available in many places, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, when an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one usage, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with high-quality gear.
