How to Unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs offer superior convenience and performance to manual keys. However, they do require batteries that will eventually wear out over time and require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob is working only intermittently, your battery might be dying and you will require replacement soon.

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few steps. First, you must locate a clean work surface to perform the procedure. Place all the tools that you'll need. Find the battery hatch and make sure it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to make the hatch off. Then, carefully remove the battery from its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Wear rubber gloves to protect the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

After the battery is removed, insert the new one into its socket. Make sure the positive side of the battery is facing up and the clips are all seated. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop until it is loose and slips off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden key blade. How to Start Your Vehicle

Put a brand new battery in its place, and put the fob back together.

Note: Some older Volvos use a different type of battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 tenths of a millimeter thinner than a CR2032 battery, which means you must be extra careful when placing the battery of the replacement.
