Slot Rankings - How Wide Receivers Score More Touchdowns in the Slot

Slots are the same for every spin. You won't find any tricks to help you beat them. However there are some things to be aware of to maximize your winning potential.

First, check out a game's RTP. This number tells you how much players can expect to win on average over the long term.

Slot Efficiency

The objective of slot efficiency is to maximize the number of slot changes that can be made without violating a predefined set of constraints. These constraints may include, for instance, the minimum allowed operational delay (usually expressed as scheduling delays) fairness, equity access, competition environmental goals and more. The process of allocation of interactive slots is a complex one and optimizing it to achieve the desired performance metrics requires careful analysis of the various factors involved.

The process starts by identifying the different types of requests to prioritize in accordance with precedents from the past. Once the type of request is determined the slot allocation model is employed to minimize the required delay criterion. However, numerous research gaps have been identified regarding the optimization of slot scheduling models, especially when the balance between fairness and efficiency is being maintained.

A popular method of prioritizing slot assignments is the ABC (assigned by velocity) strategy that collects item history data and determines the velocity group. Items with the highest velocity are given the most reputable slots, while less popular items are placed further back in the warehouse.

Another important aspect of slot effectiveness is the distance factor, which determines the amount of space that needs to be allocated to support the pick-to ship process. The calculation takes into consideration the velocity group of the items as well as their racking placements and the characteristics of handling equipment.

It is important to also take into consideration the costs of a change in the slot to improve the efficiency of your slot. A quick analysis of a typical slot change can help managers determine the cost associated with the move, and the impact it could have on other aspects of slot efficiency, like speed.

Mike Evans, Amari cooper, Tyler Lockett, and Michael Gallup were the top five scorers on perimeter routes. The bottom half of the list was populated with more possession-based receivers including Chris Godwin and Diontae Johnson. These two are likely to see a boost in their targets this season if the Bucs can move them into the slot more often however they'll need to increase their perimeter scoring to maintain that high standard.

The slot is the ideal option for wideouts who are quick, since they can get open more easily when their route won't be covered by a linebacker or cornerback. Corey Coleman is the only wide receiver who's not a speedy wideout but would benefit from more slot work. He's a solid player for intermediate and short routes.

The last spot on the list includes more possession-based receivers that are more effective on intermediate and short routes than deep ones, such as Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Jeudy is expected to be the Rams principal slot receiver this season is a sleeper selection. Courtland Cooper and Amari Sutton are expected to play a larger role in downfield targets. Hamler is likely to perform well in short-to-mid routes, since that's what he did well in 2021 when he played for the Bills. Hamler could be a great replacement for departed wideout Jordan Matthews in Buffalo.

Percentage of Snaps in the Slot

The proportion of snaps that a receiver makes in the slot is a good indicator of their ability to run deep routes. However, it isn't always a reliable indicator of a receiver's skills since certain receivers excel in the slot but can't play deep and vice versa.

Alshon Jeffrey, for example is the league leader in the number of targets he receives per game (4.8) however, he is only ranked 6th when it comes to the position that scores (58.5). This is due to the fact that most of his targets are from outside and it's difficult to make a first down on a wide-open, deep and wide-open route.

Some receivers are better at playing inside, whereas others struggle on the outside. Robby Anderson, for instance was given 978 snaps by the Panthers this season. He ran 74% of his route in the slot, compared to only 26% of his boundaries routes. This is an enormous difference that shows how much more productive Robby Anderson is when he is aligned to the slot.

Chris Godwin, a Buccaneers player, lines up inside the majority of the time on his passing downs. He has one of the top five slot receiving scores (58.5). He also played 51% his perimeter routes and is a master in one-on-1 coverage.

Speed receivers are more efficient when they align inside. They are able to be targeted further down the field and are often swarmed by one-on-1 coverage. That's why you'll see names like Julio Jones, Mike Evans and Amari Cooper on the top five spots of our list.

McDuffie, Moore and other slot cornerbacks are also in this group. McDuffie is the top player in the NFL in forced fumbles, with seven, while Moore has the highest tackle-stopping efficiency (-3.5) on this list. Through using McDuffie in the slot when they're running nickel or dime-type packages, and then placing him on the outside of base defense, Spagnuolo has maximized his abilities. Moore's ability in stopping big run plays is a huge benefit when playing the slot.

Percentage of Snaps Outside

While top NFL receivers like Golden Tate, Larry Fitzgerald and Baldwin excel on the perimeter however, their slot counterparts are equally good. Wide receivers with high slot grades score touchdowns in the same way as those on the outside. This is mainly because quarterbacks are more consistent in their targets when they throw to slot and outside wide receivers than other inside options like backfield passers and tight ends.

It's therefore interesting to see a receiver such as CeeDee lamb on this list for 2022. He plays the slot in 3 WR sets, and flanker in 2 of them. He's running more routes in the slot than a lot of the players listed on this chart. This is an excellent way to generate matchup advantages for your team. It also helps clarify why Lamb is rated as the top-rated slot receiver in our system this season.

Of course, he also plays the X position and makes huge plays from the perimeter, too. Lamb isn't as powerful as some of the other players on this list but he is still a high-graded wide receiver who is a good fit in the Cowboys scheme.

Mecole Hardman is a further example of a player who's capable of putting up huge numbers on both kinds of targets. He's among the best in the league at throwing throws from behind his shoulders. He's also a superb player who can play contested catch.

Another player on this list who's an authentic slot specialist is Baltimore's Jalen Hilton who has been positioned in the slot on 85.7 percent of his defensive snaps this season. He's allowed the third-lowest target EPA and the fifth-best run stop EPA among cornerbacks aligned in the slot, making him a crucial part of his team's defense. He's had a difficult time stopping passes from the outside and his EPA against this type of target is negative. This has been a result of playing with unsafe linebackers who aren't able to match Hilton's size and speed, as well as his route-running abilities.
